VAO held for demanding bribe for patta name transfer

The Village Administrative Officer (VAO) of Thiruneermalai was caught while demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹12,000.According to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), S. Megaladevi of Thillai Ganga Nagar had registered a document at Sub Registrar Office in Pallavaram. The document was sent from the Sub Registrar Office to VAO, Thiruneermalai for patta name transfer. T. Sangeetha, VAO, Thiruneermalai received the patta name transfer application from the Sub Registrar, Pallavaram, online on October 10.

On October 17, on the instructions of Sangeetha, Amutha, Village Assistant, demanded a bribe. Unwilling to give a bribe,the complainant approached the DVAC Chennai and filed a complaint. A case was registered, and a trap was set on Wednesday. Megaladevi was arrested while taking the bribe.
