In an effort to encourage smokeless Bhogi, the Avadi municipal corporation will establish designated stalls for the collection of waste materials.
Residents can dispose of old clothes, plastic and other recyclable materials at these stalls on January 12 and 13, and avoid burning old items during the festival.
Corporation Commissioner R. Saranya said the initiative was being implemented for the first time in Avadi to promote a smokeless Bhogi.
Awareness campaigns would be conducted through banners and public address systems. A total of 16 stalls would be set up in locations across four zones, including Vivekananda Street, Kamarajar Nagar, Vallalar Nagar, Thandurai, Sumangali Garden and near Mittanamalli tax collection centre.
