Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran leader, Shiv Pratap Shukla, is the fourth Governor of Telangana. Mr. Shukla began as a student leader and was elected to Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly four times, before serving as Minister of State for Finance. 

Mr. Shukla previously served as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh. He was transferred to Telangana on March 5, 2026 in the reshuffling of Governors on Thursday (March 5, 2026).

Born on April 1, 1952 in Gorakhpur district, Uttar Pradesh, he was a Sangatan Mantri of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Mr. Shukla joined BJP in 1983 and was first elected as an MLA in 1989, as a Janata Party candidate, as per Himachal Pradesh Lok Bhavan.

Thereafter, Mr. Shukla was elected to the Legislature in 1991, 1993 and 1996 and served as Cabinet Minister holding various portfolios including Prison, Law and Justice and Rural Development. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh on June 10, 2016 and served as Minister of State for Finance from September 2017.

He discharged duties as a Rajya Sabha member till July 4, 2022, and was appointed as Governor of Himachal Pradesh in February, 2023. He is the fourth Governor of Telangana. Prior to him, ESL Narasimhan, Tamilisai Soundararajan and C.P. Radhakrishnan were the Governors.
