Wild elephants damaged the compound wall of a housing project near Thondamuthur in Coimbatore district on Monday night.
Forest Department sources said that the compound wall of Sree Daksha’s housing project site at Kempanur near Thondamuthur was damaged by elephants.
An official from the Department stated that three wild elephants strayed from reserve forest areas of the Coimbatore forest range into Kempanur and Attukal villages on Monday night. They entered the housing plots after damaging a portion of the compound wall.
Frontline staff of the Department went to the spot after being alerted about the incident and chased the wild elephants.
The official added that incidents of wild elephants straying into villages have increased as the Coimbatore Forest Division was seeing influx of elephants due to the annual migration movement.
