Will resist attempts to target Shafi, says Kozhikode DCC

The Kozhikode District Congress Committee (DCC) has condemned the recent attempts by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) to target Vadakara MP Shafi Parambil over the allegations of sexual misconduct against his close confidant Rahul Mamkootathil, MLA.

DCC president K. Praveenkumar told the media here on Sunday (August 24, 2025) that if the CPI(M) and the DYFI attempted to provoke Mr. Parambil, the Congress would resist such moves. The remarks came in the backdrop of a protest staged by pro-Left activists in Vadakara on Saturday (August 23, 2025) while Mr. Parambil was attending an event.

Mr. Praveenkumar alleged that the CPI(M) was attempting to create a “riot-like” situation in Kozhikode. He said that although several CPI(M) leaders had faced various allegations in the past, the Congress had never targeted those close to them. “It is not fair to target Mr. Parambil because of his association with Mr. Mamkootathil. The CPI(M) should not attempt to disturb the peaceful political climate in Kozhikode,” he said.

Mr. Praveenkumar, however, declined to comment when asked whether Mr. Parambil’s stand on the issue was correct. He said the matter would be examined by the Congress and that he would abide by any decision taken by the party.
